Lives and works in Miami, Florida
Alejandra Leibovich is an Argentine-born artist working across painting, drawing, animation, and illustrated narrative. Her practice combines hand-drawn, character-based imagery with a visual language shaped by animation, film, and lived experience, using humor and figuration to explore memory, displacement, and emotional resilience.
Leibovich grew up in Argentina during the military dictatorship, moving frequently throughout her childhood and often experiencing cultural otherness, including antisemitism. She studied film as part of the first generation that formed what would become Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires, before leaving her studies early to work professionally in television. She went on to contribute to Argentina’s first programs combining animation and live action, before immigrating to the United States in her early twenties following the death of her mother from a prolongued illness.
In the U.S., Leibovich built a substantial career in animation and media, working in Atlanta during the rise of Cartoon Network and TNT. She later continued her work in Miami with major television networks including VH1, MTV, and Nickelodeon. At MTV, she played a significant role in reimagining the channel’s visual identity in the early 2000s, producing thousands of animated spots annually. Her work during this period positioned her at the forefront of digital image-making and broadcast animation.
Though long known as a digital artist, Leibovich transitioned, almost in reverse, into painting following a period of serious illness that forced her to slow down and return to drawing by hand. Beginning with small, quirky figures, her practice gradually shifted toward acrylics, pencil, and paint, emphasizing tactility, natural light, and the physical act of mark-making. These cartoon-like figures function as emotional proxies rather than literal narratives, balancing levity and vulnerability while reflecting deeply personal experiences.
Influenced by animated films, mid-century advertising, and cinematic color palettes, Leibovich’s work remains rooted in storytelling across mediums. She has exhibited widely in the United States, with early exhibitions selling out and leading to acquisitions by galleries and private collectors. She is currently focused on expanding her studio practice through painting and comics, developing work that foregrounds presence, physicality, and human connection. Leibovich is the recipient of numerous international design, animation, and innovation awards, including multiple PROMAX and BDA honors. She is also a recipient of the Enterprising Women
of the Year Award and has co-founded companies recognized by INC Magazine’s INC 5000 Fastest Growing Companies list for ten consecutive years.
